The National Alliance On Mental Health (NAMI) describes mental disorders as a condition that affects a person’s thinking, feeling, behavior or mood. As a result, these conditions deeply impact people’s lives, their ability to relate to others, and how they react to the world around them. Mental health disorders are complex with a wide range of symptoms that can affect a person’s thinking, behavior, mood, and perceptions. As a result, a person may struggle to cope with work, relationships, and the demands of daily life.
Some of the common mental health disorders we treat are:
Individuals often come to us because their mental health has become too difficult to manage on their own. For many people, problems arise that coincides with a period of life transition or are complicated by a co-occurring disorder.
At Southern Live Oak Wellness, we are able to provide the exact level of care that each client needs to heal. Our clinical team can determine the best level of care needed after a detailed individual assessment.
Our sister program, Dunwoody Behavioral Health Center, is a voluntary residential treatment facility (RTF) licensed by the state of Georgia. Here, clients are provided a safe, intimate setting for those recovering from an episode of mental illness, as opposed to an acute hospital setting. During the treatment program, clients learn coping and life skills to better manage their mental health disorders.
Our Partial Hospitalization Program is usually the appropriate step down from residential treatment. As a day treatment program, clients participate in group activities from 9:00 AM- 3:00 PM, as well as individual sessions with a psychiatrist and primary counselor. The average length of stay is four to six weeks before stepping down to our Intensive Outpatient (IOP) or Outpatient (OP) Programs.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program may be the next step down after residential or PHP treatment. This program offers mental health treatment three to five days a week, for three hours each day. IOP programming is offered during both day and evening hours to meet the client’s needs. The average length of stay in IOP is one to two months.
Outpatient care is a collaboration and integration of mental health services, treatments, and therapies based on each client’s individualized treatment plan and preferences. OP is a personalized approach that requires a partnership between a client and their mental health team to set treatment goals and measure results based on the treatment plan.
Therapeutic living is an option for those at the outpatient level of care who need to continue mental health treatment in a structured and stable setting. Some clients benefit from the extra support of therapeutic living while integrating back into their homes, jobs, and community.
At Southern Live Oak Wellness, we realize the importance of family in the treatment and healing process. Family programming allows a client’s family members to actively participate in the wellness journey of their loved one. As a result, not only are the client’s needs met but their family can receive the education, comfort, and support they need too.
Southern Live Oak Wellness continues to provide guidance and support for our clients after the completion of treatment through our Alumni Program. Our Alumni coordinator follows up with each client with monthly wellness checks. In addition to weekly meetings, we also host monthly alumni events to help clients socialize in a safe environment with people who care.
