Our Residential Treatment Program is our most intensive mental health program. This program allows the time, space, and support that clients need in order to recover from an episode of mental illness. Within this program, clients will learn how to manage their mental health diagnoses and the skills to cultivate long-term mental wellness.
Unlike a psychiatric hospital, our residential program is unlocked and voluntary. Clients share a room with one other patient, and opposed to an psychiatric hospital setting, they are in a much smaller and more intimate program and living style setting. All our residential facilities are licensed by the State of Georgia.
Residential mental health treatment usually is the best level of care for individuals leaving a psychiatric hospital or lock-down mental health facility. The average length of stay for residential mental health program is 4-6 weeks before stepping down to a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP).
Most residential clients living at our two apartments come to our mental health treatment center at Dunwoody Center.
Group hours for the residential mental health program are approximately eight hours during the day for psychiatric and therapeutic sessions. Our residential mental health programming has eight (8) beds total. Our unique program is designed for a small, intimate size that allows greater interaction with our clients on a one-to-one basis.
What makes Southern Live Oak Wellness’ mental health program unique is that in addition to our clinical mental health program, our therapeutic living competent is structured to help our patients adopt life skills to help each client grow into the person they want to become. We offer additional services including, but not limited to, cooking classes, gym services, and job skills.
All the components of our program lead to our mental health program designed to help our clients rediscover who they are or achieve the lives they’ve always wanted.
By helping them define who they are and who they want to be in addition to learning practical skills for managing their mental illness, we give our clients the best chance at long term success.
PHP & IOP
Southern Live Oak Wellness Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is offered as a step-down from residential mental health treatment. New patients may admit directly to day treatment if they are coming from another residential mental health program or our clinical team determines it is appropriate.
Usually PHP is appropriate when:
Traditional outpatient care is not successful
When the patient may need a structured living in addition to the day treatment
Clients have a degree of willingness and insight to adhere to medications and participate in treatment
Usually a client’s primary counselor, psychiatrist, and peer group will stay the same as the residential level; however, clients are expected to use life skills more independently and need less observation managing their medications. Some day treatment activities overlap with residential treatment program activities, while others are designed to help day treatment clients use and practice life skills to prepare for returning to the community. Each client has a one-on-one session with a psychiatrist and an individual session with his or her primary counselor at least once each week when participating in the mental health day treatment program.
PHP clients come to the Dunwoody Center. Group hours are from 9:00 PM- 3:00 PM. Therapeutic living is also available for this level of care. The average length of stay is 4-6 weeks before stepping down to an intensive outpatient (IOP) or outpatient program (OP).
Most clients step down to our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which offers programming three to five days a week, for three hours each day. As a program promoting life skills and over all mental wellness, our clinical IOP hours vary to meet the client’s needs. The average length of stay in IOP is an additional 1 to 2 months. Clients will continue to be provided with individual counseling and seeing our psychiatrist. IOP groups will also take place at Dunwoody center.
All clients will be given a mental health assessment prior to admission to determine which mental health program is most appropriate for their needs. Clients must complete a medical detox program, when necessary, prior to admission.
