Schizophrenia

An individual with schizophrenia may have difficulty distinguishing between what is real and what may be a hallucination and/or delusion. People with schizophrenia are often socially unresponsive and exhibit withdrawn behavior thus have trouble expressing emotion. Sometimes those diagnosed with schizophrenia may have a complex diagnosis, which may include schizophrenia and depression. Southern Live Oak Wellness has the expertise to aid in the treatment for those experiencing schizophrenia and/ or a complex diagnosis with schizophrenia.

Schizoaffective Disorder

A person with schizoaffective disorder has a chronic mental health condition characterized by symptoms of schizophrenia, which include hallucinations or delusions, and symptoms of a mood disorder such as mania or depression. There are two major types of schizoaffective disorder: bipolar type and depressive type. Southern Live Oak Wellness has an expert team that can help get a proper diagnosis if someone is exhibiting symptoms of schizoaffective disorder. Once properly diagnosed, our team is able to properly treat that individual.

Bipolar Disorder (1 & 2)

A person with bipolar disorder, sometimes referred to as manic depression, experiences at least one episode of mania as well as episodes of depression. Southern Live Oak Wellness has experience and expertise in treating clients with sometimes complex diagnoses which may include bipolar disorder with psychosis, bipolar disorder and anxiety, and bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder.

Anxiety Disorders

People with anxiety disorders experience disability as a result of their response to stress. Anxiety disorders can include panic disorder, social anxiety, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorder. An untreated anxiety disorder may prevent a person from engaging in relationships, social events, meeting job or work performance requirements, and participating in other daily activities.

Depression

Major Depressive Disorder is a serious mood disorder. Southern Live Oak Wellness has experience and expertise in treating clients with complex diagnoses, which includes treatment-resistant depression and persistent depressive disorder.

PTSD

A person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) experienced a traumatic event(s) such as an accident, assault, military combat, or a natural disaster which has had a lasting effect on a person’s mental health. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can co-exist with other conditions such as depression and anxiety. We treat all of our clients with the highest level of care and respect. No matter how many attempts to recover someone has had, we believe that there is always hope to recover.

OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by repetitive, unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and irrational, excessive urges to do certain actions (compulsions). An individual with OCD may know that their thoughts and behaviors do not make sense; however, they are often unable to stop them.

Personality Disorders

Southern Live Oak Wellness utilizes several types of psychotherapy to help treat personality disorders. During psychotherapy, a person can learn more about their disorder and what is causing their symptoms, as well as discuss their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Psychotherapy can assist a person understand how their actions affect others and how to manage or cope with symptoms as well as eliminate behaviors that cause problems with functioning and relationships. The form of treatment will be determined by the personality disorder, its severity, and the circumstances of the individual.

Suicidal Thoughts

Strictly speaking, suicidal ideation means wanting to take your own life or thinking about suicide. However, there are two kinds of suicidal ideation: passive and active. Passive suicidal ideation occurs when you wish you were dead or that you could die, but you don’t actually have any plans to commit suicide. Active suicidal ideation, on the other hand, is not only thinking about it but having the intent to commit suicide, including planning how to do it. The staff at Southern Live Oak Wellness is equipped to handle both passive and active suicidal thoughts.

Self Harm

Self-harm is when you hurt yourself as a way of dealing with very difficult feelings, painful memories or overwhelming situations and experiences. After self-harming you may feel a short-term sense of release, but the cause of your distress is unlikely to have gone away. Self-harm can also bring up very difficult emotions and could make you feel worse. Our staff at Southern Live Oaks helps address self harm urges without judgement or shame.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are behavioral conditions characterized by severe and persistent disturbance in eating behaviors and associated distressing thoughts and emotions. They can be very serious conditions affecting physical, psychological and social function. Southern Live Oak Wellness has several modalities in place to treat eating disorders including nutritional therapy & E/D groups.
